Cut & Paste Math Activities for Second Grade
One of my favorite resources to use in my second-grade classroom are these Cut and Paste Math Activities for Second Grade. I created them because I wanted some worksheets that were easy to implement but, well, weren’t just plain worksheets.

These math activities give students an opportunity to not only do the math but also provide a written response and have a little bit of cut and paste fun along the way.
What is Included in the Second Grade Math Activities
Included in the Cut & Paste Second Grade Math Activities are two pages for most standards. Each of the two pages approaches the standard in a slightly different way.
The activities include cut and paste as well as written responses. Some written responses require students to answer a computational question, draw a geometric figure or measure an object. Other written responses go deeper and ask students to explain their reasoning using sentences.
One of my favorite things about these math activities is that the answers are provided. They’re almost self-checking. There’s a set amount of pieces for each page that go onto that page, so students can easily see if they have made an error.
Cut and Paste Math Activities are available in these sets as well as a BUNDLE of all the domains.
The math activities are intended to be used after students have worked with the math concepts for a period of time. They work well in my math stations, with substitute teachers, or when I just need an activity to solidify student understanding of a concept.
Here are the included Common Core standards. As you can see most standards have two pages.

Compare Three-Digit Numbers
The first one, Compare Three-Digit Numbers, has students compare numbers using place value strategies. Students are asked to explain their thinking in two different areas on this page.

The cut and paste option provides students with several different ways to look at the numbers, including expanded notation, words, and number form. Students use the symbols, greater than and less than, to build the comparisons on the left-hand side.

On the right-hand side, students answer questions and provide an explanation of their thinking in written form.
Add Using a Number Line
Add: Use a Number Line reinforces all the number line work we have done throughout the year. I love using number lines to teach students how to add larger numbers.

In this version, the “jumps” are provided, but students must figure out what number they land on at each jump.

Place Value: Read and Write Numbers
The below page is a simple place value activity, Read & Write Numbers. The cut and paste component is the word form of the numbers. This page below is uniform, but the complementary page for this standard has various representations of the cut and paste component.

For this Read and Write Numbers page, students need to draw out each number using boxes, sticks and dots, then write the number in expanded form. The cut and paste component is in word form.
Recognize and Describe 2-D Shapes
On the below page, students cut out a variety of two-dimensional shapes, then draw the same shape and describe the sides and angles. Students must match the name and describe the shape by the number of sides and angles.

Why I love these Cut and Paste Math Activities
The cut and paste component gives students an opportunity to check their work while the explanation gives you an opportunity to see their thinking. The pages for each standard approach the content slightly differently, so you can use both pages or choose one that best fits your needs.
It’s so easy to pull the worksheets when I need some extra work for students to do or when I just haven’t had time to do the in-depth planning I like to do in Math.
